Thomas Fennell Cause of Death: SOUTH ROYALTON – Thomas Fennell, a Vermont Law School student died after he was struck by an Amtrak train on Tuesday morning in South Royalton Village.
Fennell was reportedly returning to his apartment when his vehicle was hit by a southbound train travelling from St. Albans, Vermont, to Washington, D.C. The train collided with Fennell’s vehicle on the tracks near South Windsor Windsor Street and Stearns Road. The incident occurred at 11:22 a.m. Fennell was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
“Fennell was returning to his apartment from VLS, but the driveway he normally used was blocked because the equipment from two trucks was being unloaded at the farm,” Honigford stated. “Fennell proceeded south on South Windsor Street to a nearby crossing, intending to turn around and wait for one of the trucks to pull out. He crossed the tracks and turned around, and when he returned, the train hit him” Honigford stated.
Thomas Fennell, a native of Pittsburgh, earned a bachelor’s degree in international development studies from UCLA in 2020. He was a research associate at the Institute for Energy and the Environment and a member of the VLS Class of 2023.
The family will release an obituary and funeral arrangements for Thomas Fennell.
