Trevor Madrid – Cause of Death – Trevor Madrid, 36-year-old, a longtime firefighter died on Sunday, November 21, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a rare type of cancer in 2009. His death was announced by Mesa Fire and Medical Department on their official Facebook page. According to the announcement Trevor was said to be a 14-Veteran of their Department who retired in September 2021. “Captain Trevor Madrid (retired), was a 14-veteran of our Department before he was forced to retire in September of this year” He was exposed during his service days that led to cancer, the post continues. “due to exposures he received on the job as a firefighter that led to cancer and other complications exacerbated by his condition.”

The Mesa (Arizona) Fire and Medical Department were established and organized in 1898. We have 20 stations that house 24 engines, five ladders, one ladder tender, and three ARFF (aircraft rescue and fire fighting) units at both Mesa airports. We also have three Low Acuity (LA) units and a Community Medicine Behavioral Health unit. It has 427 sworn personnel and 113 civilian personnel in support staff positions. All engines and ladders are constantly staffed with a captain, engineer, and two firefighters; of which two are paramedics (ALS) and two are EMTs (BLS). The Behavioral Health units are staffed with a licensed clinical behavioral health provider and a Fire Captain/Paramedic. Located in Maricopa County and just 15 miles east of Phoenix, Mesa covers 132 square miles, are the third-largest city in Arizona and the 36th largest city in the nation.
