Sam Burrage Obituary – Death: Sam Burrage, former WPSD anchor and reporter, has died. 75-year-old Sam Burrage, of Paducah, KY, sadly died on Monday, August 1, 2021. No cause of death was revealed.
“Saddened to hear about the death of the great Sam Burrage from WPSD 6 in Paducah. He came to Obion Central in the 80’s several times to do stories on Cannon Whitby and Coach Whitby. Even challenged Cannon to a shooting contest on TV. Prayers to his family.”
Sam Burrage was Black’s first host. He spent 35 of those years in the broadcast news industry.
“I still remember watching “Burrage’s Bag” regularly as a child. When we took a tour of the studio in elementary school, he was our guide. RIP, Sam Burrage.”
Burrage began working at WPSD on film in the 1960s. Sam began his career on camera for the station after completing a journalism training program at Columbia University in 1971.

Sam Burrage, the first Black anchor and reporter at WPSD, died Monday morning. Burrage will be remembered in the Local 6 area for his segments “People Beat,” and “Burrage’s Bag,” which displayed his charming personality and unique storytelling techniques.
