Michael D’Innocenzo Death – Cause of Death – Hofstra’s longest-serving faculty member Professor Emeritus of History Michael D’Innocenzo, has died at the age of 86. He sadly passed away in November 2021. Michael was a founding member of the Hofstra Center for Civic Engagement, a co-founder of the Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives, and the inaugural recipient of the university’s Harry H. Wachtel Distinguished Professorship for the Study of Nonviolent Social Change.
Reports says that D’Innocenzo got a master’s degree from Columbia University, where he was a Danforth Scholar, and a BA from Union College. His love of teaching and commitment to civil rights and social justice is a source of inspiration to generations of students who embrace civic engagement and service.
News @Hofstra mentioned in an article that D’Innocenzo achievements includes; establishment of the Hofstra Public Policy Institute in association with the Kettering Foundation. He also worked closely with the Hofstra Cultural Center on scores of conferences, symposia, and lectures, including the conferences Immigration and Ethnicity; 1935: The Reality and The Promise; and The Greatest: From Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali. He served on the faculty committees for many Cultural Center events.
Hofstra University said in a tweet; “The Hofstra community is deeply saddened by the passing of its longest-serving faculty member, Professor Emeritus of History Michael D’Innocenzo, whose love of teaching and commitment to civil rights and social justice inspired generations of students.”
