13-year-old Khamani Garrett was rushed into the surgeries after a stray bullet fired by a 36-year-old parolee, struck through his neck on his way to school early Tuesday morning in Bronx.
The incident happened at approximately 7:20 a.m. on E. 223rd St. near Bronxwood Ave. in Wakefield. Responding officers transported the teen to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was rushed into surgery. A crime scene was established by investigators.
A man was seen dropping something on the ground and then hurridly taking it off. Officers approached the man, who was later identified as Hubert Wigg,s they realized the item was a gun, the suspect tried to stash the gun in his waistband, then dropped it on the ground when the cops ordered him to, a six-shot revolver was recovered from the scene, according to NYPD Assistant Chief Kenneth Lehr. Wiggs has a history of gun violations, Lehr added.
Wiggs was taken into custody from the scene. Investigations is ongoing.
