Ben Miner said on Facebook; “Matt Billon was like family to me. We met in 2003 and became instant best buds, we were young comics chasing a dream and we were in it together. He was so damn cool, looked like John Lennon and smashed on stage. Just being friends with him back then got me through so many challenging times and inspired me to keep at it. He was about the art of it and absolutely lived for comedy. He was smart, clever and the only conspiracy theorist I could talk to for extended periods of time.
“I can’t believe I’m even writing this post now but we lost Matty today. I wanted to wait to write, I was hoping it wasn’t true. We spoke maybe three days ago and I told him the name we liked for our baby, he said he loved it. That my child will never know his Uncle Matt breaks my heart in a way I can’t explain. I will continue to tell myself that he’s not gone, that what’s in fact happened is that the government got to him because he knew too much. Men in dark suits and such.
“Matty I loved you like a brother and I’m not alone there. I will miss you beyond words, I was blessed to know you and call you my friend. The gigs, the good times, the late nights and big plans. I don’t know what more I can say other than this is a hurt I hope none of you know. Strength and love to the Billon family. Rest In Peace, Matty.”
Dave Hudson shared on Facebook; “Matt Billon is gone. It seems ridiculous to me as Matty was a force. Full of joy and laughs and a truly one of the most open and honest hearted people I have ever met. He was so funny, had incredible stories and I was lucky enough to be there for some amazing times. Early days in Toronto, so many times at Time to Laugh. Heartbreaking.”
