Professor Chris Pickvance Death – Cause of Death – The news about the unexpected passing of Chris Pickvance was publicized in a tweet made on the 18th of November 2021 by H. Tarık Şengül. Professor Chris Pickvance was an Emeritus Professor of Urban Studies. Pickvance worked on urban, regional and environmental topics and has made positive impacts on theoretical debates and to the analysis of central and local government policy. His works is also focused on household responses to dissatisfaction, including protest and individual behaviors.

Comparative analysis was a special interest for Professor Pickvance and he has conducted sociological research in both western and eastern Europe. He was an educationist who believe that there should always be a close link between theory and research which led him to write a number of methodological papers, e.g., on comparative analysis and causality, where it seemed to him that simplistic ideas of causality were excluding complex possibilities such as plural causation.

According to University of Kent, Pickvance has supervised a wide range of PhD theses which includes, Moscow neighbourhood protest (Aleh Ivanou), an urban village in Wuhan (Huang he), a household- based approach to house-building in Algeria (Themila Boussoualem) and Governing diversity in Belgium, Netherlands and the UK: a three city comparison (Maria Schiller).

H. Tarık Şengül said in a tributes; “Deeply sorry to hear my phd supervisor and friend Chris Pickvance has passed away.
