Cecil Hurt Cause of Death – Passed Away: TUSCALOOSA, AL., – Longtime Alabama sportswriter Cecil Hurt has passed away. He was 62 years old. Cecil Hurt, who was a sports reporter at The Tuscaloosa News died on Tuesday afternoon at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham of complications from pneumonia.
Jordy Culotta issued a statement after news of Hurt’s passing broke, calling the veteran Alabama Sportswriter “a brilliant, powerful, eclectic, curious and friendly.” Gary Mullins also share a tweet, “RIP Cecil. Hard to believe and sadder still. I started reading Cecil in ‘83, about the time I decided I was going to BAMA. This leaves a huge hole in the heart of the BAMA family. My prayers go out to his family.”
Cecil Hurt was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. In 1982, he joined The Tuscaloosa News as a sports writer. For nearly 40 years, he covered Alabama sports for the Tuscaloosa News. He became the sports editor and columnist after seven years. Hurt had been hospitalized for nearly two weeks due to pneumonia complications, according to a statement released by his family.
“Pretty shook over this one. No one could paint a sports picture with words like Cecil, and I’m surely going to miss reading his columns. The world of sports journalism just lost an absolute legend. RIP Cecil Hurt.” Glenn Dillard wrote on Twitter.
Cecil Hurt obituary and funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by his family.
