“Lost a friend today, Brett Miller! It’s hard when you start losing people your age! He was inspiring in all things health and wellness and very fit! Lost his life to a bicycle accident (no car involvement). He gave me much perspective on bike/car rules! This one will take sometime to process! Hug your friends and loved ones! Life is short!”

“Today is a sad day Brett Miller was a good friend. I have personally raced with him and he’s always been encouraging to me. He will be deeply missed. My prayers go out to his family and friends he left behind #beardedsensation”

“Thank you Brett Miller for always pushing me and supporting in my endeavors. This is a pic of part of one of our last conversations we had before I did my overnight ride to get ready for Gravel worlds which he was supposed to participate in as well. I was really looking forward to toeing the start line with him out there in Nebraska! Now it won’t happen and I am just devastated for his family. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Bret I will never forget you standing at that intersection at C2C with a hand made sign that said “Don’t Die” and yelling my name as I went through.”

“It can happen to any of us at any time… Here’s props to an awesome bike party guy in Lansing. Brett Miller. He’s been encouraging fun on bikes in Lansing for years. He didn’t ride hardly at all with LBP but he upheld the finest of bike party values. Having fun on bikes. Encouraging others to do so as well. Helping people. But on more the crazy high end. Also on the welcoming casual end, tho still lycra. …But the crazy crazy stuff with his crazy pals: like a 300 mile time trial. Like the Crusher stuff. Coast to Coast. Lumberjack. If he wasn’t doin’ em he was there helping. I last tipped a beer with him in the gravel ride parking lot last Thursday. He rolled in carrying Nicole’s bike over his shoulder! She got a 2nd flat tire in the last mile, I think. It was quite a sight. Brett was quite a sight. Big beard. Burly guy. We had a great time chatting about how to do rides that were over your head: try, get dropped, try again — gradually last longer. We talked about safely running a group ride on a busy road — and the aggressive but effective methods we use and are developing. We were also all saying goodbye to Sheldon who’s moving. Like all my interactions w Brett it was heartfelt. Our worlds didn’t totally overlap but we had a blast welcoming each other, with gusto, in both directions. …And now we say goodbye to Brett forever. Yesterday he had a bike race crash that took him. He was highly skilled. This hasn’t happened to us before that I recall. A terrible first-ever and hopefully the last. He was a big character and deserves to have his generosity and attitude kept alive. Lansing bike is in some pain right now.”

“You will be missed Brett Miller. I only had the pleasure of knowing you for a few years, but got to spend a lot of time riding with you and you taught me a lot. You had such a big heart and would do anything to help anyone; including carrying your sister’s bike on your back for a mile when she got a flat! I’m so glad we got to play bikes this past Thursday night. #beardedsensation”

“It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of our Team members Brett Miller. Brett was an outstanding employee that spent over 15 years with HTA. He was so much more than just an employee though, he was our friend and like family to many of us including me. He helped build HTA to what it is today. He cared and it showed every day and on every project. We will miss you dearly Brett and I am forever grateful for the time I was able to work along side of you. Please pray for his entire family during this extremely difficult time.”

“I first met Brett Miller when I photographed him for a story on the best beards in Lansing. Every time I ran into him after that he treated me like we were best friends. When I started racing mountain bikes, he was always there to support me. When groups rides were posted, I always got a separate text from him asking if I could make it. When on rides and I’d get dropped, he was always back checking on me. When I needed something from tires to bike packing bags, he was always the first to say “here try this”. One of the best souls I have ever met. We rode together last Sunday, it’s not fair that it was our last. RIP buddy.”
