Our CGD community has lost a very dear person, Ben Stylo, yesterday in Australia. Ben was 28, and had been diagnosed with CGD at age 3. Due to serious illnesses and a very rare infection, Ben came to the US last year to have a bone marrow transplant at National Institutes of Health (NIH). We got to know his mom, Rose Treverton, through Beemer’s and Ben’s transplants, as we all fought this horrible disease for a healthy future for our sons. Rose spent months in Bethesda, Maryland to care for Ben, and more recently was a very vocal advocate for Ben, and for patient and caregiver rights in this imperfect world we find ourselves in. We are all grieving with you Rose, and Ben will always have a special place in our hearts.
If ever you’ve admired our lovely Ratha’s Place logo please take time to pause for the gorgeous Ben J. Stylo who at the far too young age of 28 lost his long battle with a rare and cruel illness today. He designed our logo and with his family donated the first Ratha’s Place sign to our centre in Cambodia. His beautiful soul and exceptional artistic talent is lost to the world and his friendship is lost to many at Ratha’s especially Emily. Our hearts truly break today. Thinking of his family and friends at this time.
We are still working on getting more details about the death, as a family statement on the death is yet to be released.
