Johanne Shanandoah was born in the year 1958 in Oneida, New York, the U.S. to the Mother of the Oneida Indian Nation, in New York Maisie Shenandoah, and late Onondaga Nation chief Clifford Shenandoah. She was a talented singer, guitarist, author. She played the vocals and acoustic guitar so well.

She gained various awards which include a Grammy Award, she also obtained about 14 awards in the American Native American Music Awards, she was said to have been collected the highest awards than other native artists with about 40 music awards. Shenandoah also gained various Indie Awards and Syracuse Area Music Awards.
