Lewis and Aileen Demeter gave birth to Don L. Demeter on June 25, 1935, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 1953, Don graduated from Capitol Hill High School. Don began his baseball career with the Brooklyn Dodgers after graduating from high school. He was a part of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series-winning squad in 1959.

Don played for the Philadelphia Phillies, the Detroit Tigers, the Boston Red Sox, and the Cleveland Indians. In 1999, he was inducted into the Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Fame, and in 2010, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame.
