Below are some of the condolences posted on social media.
Jon Bailey, You will be missed Lavonte “Red” Benford, and it was a true honor serving as your middle school and high school Principal. We shared several conversations, and would always talk about how you excelled academically and in athletics (I miss these moments). Rest in Heaven young man and I am praying for your family! We are losing to many of our youth to gun violence.
Mari Corales, Coming into work today, I can’t help but remember all the shenanigans he pulled in the lab. All the times I pulled my hair out from frustration, the times we laughed, and the times that got too real. It’s never easy losing a student. Even more so when they carved a special place in your heart. These things never make sense when they are so young. How can God’s plan be so cruel? I know there is a reason but for the life of me I can’t figure it out. Last night, I couldn’t sleep but now it’s time to be strong. So many other people are hurting from this loss. Rest in Heaven, Lavonte “Red” Benford. You will be missed.
Lavonte Benford’s obituary will be organized by the family.
