Don Shondell Cause of Death – Passed Away: MUNCIE, IN., – Well-known Ball State University (BSU) volleyball coach and a native of the Fort Wayne area Dr Don Shondell passed away on Tuesday night, November 23, 2021. He was 92 years old. The cause of his death is currently unknown to the public.

Dr Don Shondell earned his bachelor’s degree in 1952 from Ball State University. He began coaching in 1956, and in 1960, he founded the first men’s club volleyball team at Ball State, which he coached for 34 years. Shondell’s 769-280-6 career record is also the second-most wins by a head coach in NCAA men’s volleyball history. From 1964 to 1998, he was named Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Coach of the Year eight times.

Dr Shondell was president of the United States Volleyball Association from 1979 to 1980. He was inducted into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1983 and the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 1996, and Ball State opened a practice center in his honor in July 2018.
