I miss Alvin Ing. He performed last year in Tokyo. He had full of charm when he is on stage. I am so appreciative I could see his final stage. Wait for me at rainbow bridge that we can dance together again
We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Alvin Ing this weekend. A true trailblazer and pioneer, Ing paved the way for Asian American performers. We are honored to say he shared his talent with us on numerous productions.
My old roomie passed. The great Alvin Ing. If you ever wanted to know how to live your life to the fullest just look to Alvin. The life of the party, the best laugh, the kindest heart, the naughtiest humor, the most beautiful voice at the piano bar. You will be missed. I’m so lucky to have known you and to have been your pal. Go have some tea, my lord. Some chrysanthemum tea.
Today I am grieving. The luminous, lovely, earnest and empathetic Alvin Ing has passed on.
To know Alvin was to adore him. To lose him is to be ripped open, vulnerable and aching for the tender sweetness that was Alvin’s friendship. When I received word of his passing, I was immediately brought back to April, when we spoke at length about his life and career in preparation for a profile. While that afternoon was full of laughs and revelations, I cannot stop thinking about what happened after our call. I stepped outside, stretching my face to the sun after crying with Alvin on the phone, and a double rainbow suddenly shimmered into existence – the sky had cried with us, and as I surfaced, so did the sun. I snapped this photo to send to him. His response? “A beautiful rainbow can only mean ” dreams can come true – if you believe”.” Alvin was a dreamer until the very end, and I mourn his kind hearted companionship. He was a good man, in every sense of the word.
Dearest Alvin Ing – Thank you for your friendship and your mentorship. I will cherish every moment I got to share with you on and off stage. From Singapore to NY, to LA, (to Barcelona), and many events over the years, I was so lucky to be in your presence. We all were. You paved the way for so many of us. Rest In Peace, sweet Alvin. “Plant a radish, get a radish, never any doubt…A man who plants a garden, is a very happy man.” See you on the other side.
